Hello
I'm Phil Howard and I write Gadgetoid, a technology and lifestyle blog. I've been dabbling in gaming, tech and lifestyle blogging for some 20 years. It's always been, and perhaps always will be, a hobby. To keep the lights on I write software for Sheffield-based hobby-electronics manufacturer Pimoroni.
Gadgetoid is the antithesis of the modern web: a fast, minimalist tech blog with no javascript, no advertisements and no nonsense. It covers audio, health, gaming, keyboards, mini PCs, USB-C and whatever else has caught my eye this month.
The numbers
I don't run analytics, so I can't sell you a demographic breakdown. What I can give you is unique visits as reported by the caching proxy.
- Unique visitors a month
- 100k+
- Busiest day
- 8.87k
- Quietest day
- 5.82k
- Read mostly from
- UK Europe Canada USA
Cloudflare, 30 days to 28 August 2026: 104.23k unique visitors.
The job, roughly
-
Testing a Herman Miller Cosm. Not me, obviously. The rest of the review team gets stuck in. -
Me, standing in front of a wall, which has a printout of me on it. -
Splash-testing a Soundcore speaker. I don't promote anything I can't touch, feel, and spray with the garden hose. -
A short-throw projector, throwing a cabbage. Colour accuracy: leafy. -
Capturing footage for the Meta Quest, which is harder than it has any business being. -
An Epomaker keyboard, sat in front of a keyboard PCB of my own design.. -
An STS drill with an unreasonably long bit, balanced on a VTOMAN battery.
The arrangement
I have one overarching rule for Gadgetoid: keep it simple. You send me a product, I write about that product. If it gets any more complicated than that then - no hard feelings - it's too much like work and I'm not interested.
I'm a one man band with way too many kids and a day job keeping me busy, so lead times can sometimes be long and unpredictable. Bear with me.
- Will you publish our sponsored post?
- No.
- Will you sign up to our affiliate programme?
- No.
- We need you to sign this contract/NDA.
- No, and no. Anything ceding creative control or overcomplicating this process is out of the question. I run Gadgetoid as a hobby and I have no interest in making it feel like work.
- Could you buy our product from Amazon? We'll refund you once you leave a positive review.
- Absolutely not. And I'll forward your email to Amazon. They'll ignore it, of course, but it's the thought that counts.
- Can we pay you to...
- No. Unless it's like a million dollars or something. Everyone has their price.
- Will you swap links?
- Sending me something to review? Then sure, it would be silly not to link the product, and a link back in your reviews section is deeply appreciated. Promoting blogspam? No.
- Can you make a small change to your review?
- Depends what it is. A link somewhere reasonable? Sure. A point I forgot to mention? Sure. Biasing my candid opinion in favour of your brand? No.
- What's your audience and demographic breakdown?
- I don't know, and I won't ever know. I removed all analytics from Gadgetoid in pursuit of uncompromising privacy, minimalism and performance. I can give you unique visits as reported by the caching proxy. Take it or leave it.
- Why are you like this, Phil?
- I'm old, I'm jaded, and I've been reviewing things one way or another for roughly 20 years. I don't do this for a living and I don't have any patience for nonsense.
